It’s Never Easy to Say Goodbye; a despedida.

IMG_6201

In my life, I am at the akward stage of becoming a true young adult. Like any twenty-something it’s a confusing time to be seeing my Facebook newsfeed filled with photos of newborn babies AND VIP parties at the trending nightclubs.

One of my best friends Trish, who some of you may know from previous posts, is finally leaving to a journey on her own. She has decided to begin her “life” in Japan, the place where she was born. Like me, we were both raised in different worlds, but we came together in one world that bonded us quickly. That world was called high school. She has become one of my closest friends for almost ten years and I hate to see her go. But, I know it’s time for us to begin our own lives. It’s the time to pursue all of our ambitions, our dreams and establish ourselves to become who we really are.

So, Trish I will miss you terribly.

A few of us had a despedia for her and we went to several places. Two bars being Oarhouse and Bar1951, both located in Malate. We then stopped over at a hole-in-the-wall ramen house, which is located near the Coffee Bean on Adriatico St. (It didn’t have a name. It’s that secret, however it’s very visible. You will see many eating out on the tables placed on the sidewalk). Both bars are great for the steady drinkers who are looking for a good ambiance. Low-key and under the radar these bars a great for just enjoying a few drinks with friends. Something that was much needed to say goodbye.

Top: Supre Australia

Skirt: Forever 21

Cardigan: Cotton On

The basic of a black pencil skirt comes in handy at any event. Being an essentiall it makes it so easy to pair with different tops. (See here for my lists of essentials for pinup style. ) A peplum top with a retro print, like the houndstooth, gives the ultimate hourglass figure. Hiding any unwanted bulges specifically around the hip area, peplum tops are great for narrowing the waist and giving the silhouette of sexy.

My hair was a bit inspired by the Rita Hayworth. I used a wet-set with foam rollers. Super simple and these curls will last for days!

Then there was this. The Taylor Swift handbag pose. We found it a bit strange that she holds her bags by the forearm (facing upward). We found it a bit uncomfortable, but we gave it a try. (I am not a fan of her’s by the way.)

Yeah, our bags carried our life in it. Therefore almost breaking off our forearms.

I'm a mess. Eyeliner everywhere from the tears. But, still smiling for the future!

Love you Trish!

What are your favorite date night outfits?

Essentials: Hair Accessories-Flowers and Bows

IMG_5480

I’m not one for accessories. I rarely ever wear jewlery or dazzle up my outfits. But my favorite pinup accessory are hair flowers and bows! Maintaining a vintage hairstyle can be difficult, time consuming, and tedious. On the days where I really don’t feel like working on my hair, a good curl/brush out with an added bow or flower immediatley makes a great pinup hairstyle.

Flowers are so classy. I love them put near the ear, but you can also add them to a pony tail. I tend to choose neutral colors for my flowers so that it makes it easier to match with my outfits. But there are so many varieties out there for your choosing; different materials, colors and flower types.

Bows are great too! Some of you may be thinking that bows can be….adolescent. Too cute maybe? Well if you choose right, it can be a great accessory. I wear them just like a flower, on the side of my ear. But you can also wear them above a pony tail for that 1950s prep look. My assortment of bows are primary colors giving off a bit of a cheerleader-varsity vibe.

Hair accessories have been favored by classic pinups, and modern ones too.

Classic pinups such as Bettie Page, to modern pinups like Bernie Dexter.

Please excuse the quality of the photos, these were taken from my Instagram account.

I find hair accessories everywhere! Always keep an eye out over at any accessories section of your favorite store. I usually find great pieces at Forever 21, SM Department Store, and even the children’s section like Zara.

Hair accessories are definite pinup essential! Get out there and experiment with different styles, colors and type!

A Sunday dress on a Monday

A perfect dress for a casual errands day. A jersey dress with this amazing bold print. I love the flowers! Elegantly vintage, but the color scheme makes it so modern and girly. Just a white belt and a cardigan to match. Oh an my hair was foam-roller set so it gives off the late 40’s look. Nails to match the pretty lilac flowers on the dress too!

I wasn’t sure of my plans for the day so I went with a comfortable look. Eventually, my best friend and I went on a little late night adventure, and went to The Collective in Makati for kebabs and shisha. So luckily my outfit was a good choice for comfy yet styling. Sailor tops are an essential for that pin-up or rockabilly look. They’re completely versatile and an all time classic. The way to style a sailor top for the pin-up look is all about matching, fit and accessorizing. I decided to go with a full black circle skirt keeping a 50’s look. But like I said, the sailor top is versatile. So experiment with not just circle skirts, but high-waisted shorts, tight pencil skirts or cut off jeans! Accessorizing with fun and colorful pieces can tie the whole look together. Try hair pieces, like bows, flowers or a red bandana! All of these pieces are from Forever 21, including the cute red bow! The sailor top was at Php 715 and the black midi skirt was at Php 1,015. The bow was just Php 185! So get that pin-up essential and let’s set sail for cuteness!
