Summer! Gingham and Tacos: Dinner Date at El Chupacabra

This dress screams Dorothy! Where is my Toto? My outfit belongs at a picnic, but instead I took it to a taco shop. El Chupacabra, located on Polaris St. In Makati, is the place to find the local hipsters grubbing down on carne asada, gorditos and sweet sweet horchata. This place is pretty close to something I would get back home in LA.

Gingham is one of my favorite pinup prints, and with my white cardigan this outfit is perfect for a hot summers date.

I think I’m having an affair with the color teal. This dress is so cute with it’s polkadots and the structure of the color makes it a classic pinup look. The material is so light which is perfect for summer. My shoes are Philippine hand-made and guess for how much? Just Php 250! I did my makeup light for the day because of the insane humidity that is happening. This look is overall pretty simple.

Summer is here!

A light colored wardrobe is in play now, and with this pretty teal peplum skirt makes me feel all summery (if thats a word). I bought it back when I had big red mermaid hair, and when I would wear this…ala Ariel! The top is a china floral print in a bustier structure so it’s fun for summer and perfect for the heat. A denim jacket during the humid hell of summer? Don’t worry it’s a very light jacket and needed for when at night the summer night becomes cool and eerie.

Clean Cut: Hombre Manila Salon for Men

DSC_0387 My long-time boyfriend, Diego, is in medical school. That comes with exhausting hours of studying and endless exams. Leaving him with no time for a good clean haircut. Last Saturday, we had been in the city for some errands. While at it, we passed by Hombre Manila. A fairly new salon for men that has just opened in January 2015 located along Arnaiz St. (Pasay Rd.) at Park Square . Upon walking in from the summer heat, we were greeted by the owner Jen Leung. She knew her stuff. Immediatley she knew how Diego’s hair was. Difficult, a mess, and all over the place. You see, Jen had studied in the states and had been cutting hair for 21 years over at the capital (Washington D.C.) She’s not the only one with years of experience. Her staff even includes a barbera! Yes, a woman barber! And don’t worry ladies, they do women’s hair too. So if you want to get your treatment done, a quick trim or even a mani-pedi while your man is getting his cut on, welcome the new bonding experience. Diego began with a good massage, which he definietly deserved after months of final exams! And soon the magic began… The Junior stylist Horhe began clipping, snipping and styling at ease. And soon Diego looked like a gentleman. Fresh and clean, and no more stressted-out medical student. DSC_0374 DSC_0382 DSC_0383 DSC_0378 DSC_0368

I love sweetheart halter dresses! They are the perfect structure for a day dress. Can’t get enough of them.

Beetle Break

How fun is this?

A friend took his family’s classic Volkswagon Beetle into a piece of canvas. And he didn’t keep it all to himself, rather he invited us to splash on our creativity!  This was possible by adding a layer of foiling allowing us to freely brush on our ideas without ruining the vintage beauty.

A project for an exhibit with the theme of  “break”. This is where we paint on anything we associate with the word! Gathered together on the street we went crazy with designing anything on our minds.

My design became a mini mural. Keeping in mind of the theme, I thought of designing a mermaid. I love mermaids and their tale of beauty and viciousness. Their struggle with the power of freedom definitely gave me the inspiration for “break”.

I brought along my brother who had a great time. And it was fun seeing friends get artsy!

A History of Hair

A wonderful infograph showing how hair has changed over the years. Per deacade, this graph gives great examples of starlets of the era. From glamoured hair to the ‘Rachel’. An easy way to look at how our hair really is a statement.

Watch This: Gilda (1946) Starring Rita Hayworth

20319302

I have been obsessing over this movie for a month now. It’s on constant replay. Rita Hayworth is amazing and so stunning in this film. She is the definition of femme fatale, or a scheming bitch in today’s terms. “Gilda” is all about, well Gilda.

gilda12

She brings life, chaos, seduction, and the needed drama to the plot. Her love/hate relationship with her ex-lover Johnny will give you those feelings of passion and intrigue. But, she has a new husband who is much older….and very rich (yes Gilda is a gold digger) who happens to be Johnny’s boss who owns an illegal cassino. Need anymore drama?

GILDA

Well while all this is going on, Gilda seeks revenge and does everything possible that any broken hearted crazy ex-girlfriend would do.

Gilda knows she’s beautiful, charming, and manipulative and she definietly takes advantage. You will love this movie if you love characters who despise one another, yet somehow find the path that leads to their love.

Now, let’s talk about Rita’s wardrobe. Each scene, each piece, each ensemble was GLAMOROUS. Since Gilda is presented as a seductress her outfits consists of fabrics like silk and fur. The structure is tight fitting showing her curves.

Materials such as silk bring the old Hollywood glamour.

Rita Hayworth was best known for her hair. The fluffy, flirtatious ‘S’ wave that she flaunts. Rita Hayworth’s hair was actually one of the old Hollywood actresses that would model for the iconic Jessica Rabbit. It is very 1940s and genuinely captivating.
